The Secret: Taking Action On Your Ideas
In late 2007, I lived the life that many of you are living now. In transition. Between jobs. And looking toward an uncertain future.
But it really wasn’t that uncertain. Not really.
Because as I looked forward I knew there was something I needed to do. I just wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do.
Sound familiar?
So I took the opportunity during my transition to research my life. My early ambitions, my performance reviews, journals, writings and anything else I could find that might provide answers.
I knew I had a long, self-censored desire to launch something. But what?
The answer came from my “idea book” which you can read about on the blog that, along with Tim’s Strategy, got me started. The blog is called Quixoting – A Quest For New Ideas.
Writing two blogs and deciding to work earnestly toward a few ideas was the difference for me. It was the set of focused actions I took to define the right bigger course of action. So when you hear from people that “you could start a blog”, you should consider it. Especially as a way to take a simple idea, think it through and get reactions to it.
If you’d like you can download my free e-book and learn more about the benefits of taking action on your ideas via the free downloads page.
Of course there’s been disappointments along the way.
Looking back, there were two moments when I almost stopped writing and creating. Not many people were reading the blog and I was tired of waking up at 5 am to write before heading out to my full time job.
But something kept me going: the sense that people really needed help.
And this great book I read by Bob Buford: Halftime. Changing Your Game Plan From Success To Significance
So why am I telling you all of this? Because:
“I want you to see your transition as something bigger than a job search. To be just a bit less focused on finding a job and more focused on finding yourself. And using this time to live or plan a bigger life.”
My open posture during job search created new opportunities that I hadn’t planned but always wanted in my life. If you have that same desire. For your life to be different. Perhaps you can think bigger too.
So . . .what one change could you make today to get your life on a better, more purpose-driven course?
And what part of that plan can you execute now while you have the time?
Where did all this work get me five years later?
This week we sent out the first invites for participation in the public beta for the new job search strategy software. You can see my announcement in the LinkedIn group or ask about it on Facebook or Twitter.
A significant 16 month effort to take my advice, ideas, marketing expertise and passion and put it all into one, easy to smart strategy. For job seekers, career centers and companies.
A few updates:
- We’ll be in invite-only mode for a few months so let me know if you would like to be added to the list to receive a promo code.
- If you run (or are a member of) a church-based or local job search networking group that provides free services to job seekers, we are developing a discount program for you.
- We are also planning local and online user/training groups. More on that soon!
During job search it’s never more true that “your life is what you make it”.
So what will you make of yours?
